Banyan Fire Station Starts Operation in Jurong Island Today

The Banyan Fire Station commenced its operations from a modern, purpose-built building located along Banyan Road, Jurong Island at 8.00am today. Banyan Fire Station, which sits on a land area of 5000 square metres, comes with state-of-the-art fire-fighting and rescue equipment and also includes parking areas for emergency vehicles, stores for operational equipment, office space and training facilities. SCDF Operational Exercise at Espanade

SCDF will be conducting a ground deployment exercise at the Esplanade on Friday, 30 October 2009. The exercise will begin at 1am and end at about 3am. Such exercises are part of SCDF''s on-going efforts to validate and update operational plans, procedures and test information flow between SCDF''s HQ elements and its supporting ground units. The opening session of the ASEAN Seminar on CBRNE consequence management was held earlier today at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. SCDF Operation Lionheart deployment to Padang City, Sumatra Earthquake - Situation Update 5

This morning, a 3-man SCDF's medical team of the Operation Lionheart Contingent, comprising a Doctor and two Paramedics were deployed to assist the SAF Medical Team at its medical facility in Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Pariaman (Pariaman Hospital). They will return to Singapore together with the SAF Medical Team upon the completion of their medical mission. LTC Kadir Maideen, Contingent Commander, also visited Prof (Dr) Marlis Rahman, Vice-Governor of West Sumatra (in the left in picture), at his office this morning. Prof (Dr) Marlis Rahman expressed his appreciation to SCDF’s contingent for our assistance rendered and presented LTC Kadir with a memento. Click to read more.

SCDF Operation Lionheart deployment to Padang City, Sumatra Earthquake - Situation Update 4

ASEAN Secretary General, Dr Surin Pitsuwan (seated in the left in picture) visited the SCDF Lionheart Contingent at their base camp on 06 Oct 2009, Tuesday at 1215hrs (local time). Dr Surin was briefed by Contingent Commander, LTC Kadir Maideen on the search and rescue efforts and support rendered by the team for the past four days. Dr Surin expressed his gratitude to the Singapore team for rendering assistance to a fellow ASEAN member country. Click to read more.

ST Electronics Awarded S$34m Contract to Build Command & Control System for SCDF

Last evening, ST Electronics and the SCDF announced that ST Electronics has been awarded a contract worth about S$34m by the SCDF to transform the emergency call-taking and despatch system in its Operations Centre (Ops Centre) into a new generation command and control system called Advanced C3 Emergency System (ACES). Work on the project begins immediately and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2012. Click here to read more.

Launch of ICE (In Case of Emergency) Outreach Programme

During the annual National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC) Seminar 2009 today, Guest-of-Honour Commissioner Peter Lim launched the ICE (In Case of Emergency) Outreach Programme. This will be a month long campaign jointly organised by SCDF and NFEC. By having a uniform approach to storing emergency contacts in a mobile phone, emergency responders can quickly identify and contact the victim's next-of-kin in the event of an emergency.
